The Poona Women’s Council located in Pune was founded in 1924 by Lady Wilson. The PWC has many noted projects which serve the underprivileged women and children of Pune like
Poona Women’s Council English Medium School: A State Board recognized School for over 600 students from low-income families. Here quality education is provided at nominal cost and tuition sponsorship is provided to students who cannot afford the subsidized fees. The School has a fully equipped Computer and Science Lab and facilities for e-learning. Mid-day meals are provided to all students every single working day which has led to good health and increases attendance of the students.
Manovikas: A special school and workshop for the students who have special needs and are differently abled. This School provides vocational training, music therapy, physiotherapy and mid-day meals to all the students.
Village Welfare: Balwadis (preschool) & Anganwadis (crèches) located on the outskirts of Pune at Katraj and Bavdhan give basic education and free lunch to all students.
Family Planning Centre: This project is in collaboration with the Family Planning Association of India. Social workers visit women of slum areas and poor neighborhood and provide them with health education and educate them on methods of contraception.
Troops Welfare: Guidance and support is provided to the widows and families of Jawans who have sacrificed their lives for our country. Old Clothes are collected and distributed to the needy at marginal cost.
Over 170 children are enrolled in the DSCW school across nursery, KG, and Class-1. Funded by donations from members and well-wishers, the school is entirely run on a charitable basis with very nominal fees.

MEMBERSHIP: Convenor Ms. Delshad Govekar
During this period we have enrolled 8 life members. Convenor is trying to update upon the addresses, mobile numbers & e-mails of old members who do not receive any
Poona Women’s Council messages.
Environment: Convenor Ms. Madhu Sarkar
On 5th June 2018 Environment Day was celebrated at Jagtap Nursey, Members enjoyed a small demo of organic vegetable kitchen garden. 73 members & guests attended the same. President Ms. Hegde thanked Ms. Chandralekha Jagtap & her son Devendra for their Co-operation & well organization of the programme.
FAMILY COUNSELING CENTRE: Convenor- Ms. Meenaxi Chhatre
The center has been working efficiently under the norms and directives laid down by the Central/State Social Welfare Board. The center functions with 2 counsellors,1 advocate, 1 clerk/typist and one peon. The centre has done excellent job dealing with 90 new cases and follow-up of old cases are being done.
Most of cases (Viz.Marital maladjustment personality difference, interference of parents, extra marital relations, Alcohol/drug addict, economic crisis, mental/handicap problem, physical harassment etc.) were sorted out to a great extent through effective counseling. Legal experts visit the centre twice a week.
24 awareness camps were held in many places in and around Pune.
FAMILY PLANNING: Convenor- Ms. Ratush Wadia
This project works in co-ordination with the Family Planning Association of India (Pune). Various programmes and camps like film show for adolescent children, domestic violence, street plays are carried out by field workers at areas like Malwadi, Gokul Pathar, Warje, Shivne and also training of trainers on RTI, STI was carried out at GGFC Kothrud Pune. Total number of programmes 38 and participants 773.
GET-TOGETHER: Convenor- Ms. Lata Pardesi There were total 3 programmes:
• 4th July Founder’s Day- Musical Tambola followed by Lunch at Poona Club.
• 11th August- Dosa Demonstration with dosa service Lunch.
• 7th September- Visit to Stahl Steel Manufacturing unit at Pirangut. 35 Ladies attended.
• Christmas Party
• Women’s Day/Holi Party
MANOVIKAS: Convenor Ms. Naina Hegde
School re opened in June and has been functioning very well. • Independence Day was celebrated along with the Swami Vivekanand School. Snacks were distributed, Sponsored by Lions Club of Pune Erandwane. • Mid-day meals continue to be donated by the MUKUL Madhav Foundation. • 2 Departments from Tata motors visited Manovikas as part of the company volunteer week and donated school bags, a gas stove as well as a cash donation. • The art and story activities conducted by the Korean church continue as usual. • A Parent- teacher meeting will be held on 25th Oct. • Children are preparing for Annual day to be held on 2nd Nov. We are grateful to all the generous donors and supporters of Manovikas.
NEWS LETTER: Convenor Ms. Farida Fanaswala
A bimonthly newsletter is printed and circulated to all the members with a view to keep them abreast of the council activities as well as any social issue concerning women and children of Pune.
PWC ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL: Convenor-Ms. Rakhi Shetty.
• The Poona Women’s Council is functioning very well with over 600 students from Nursery to 10th Standard.
• Mid-Day Meals are provided to the students every day from funding provided by Mukul Madhav Foundation.
• Sanitary napkins provided by Spectrum are distributed every month to the Secondary Section girl students.
• This year the students of BJ Medical College conducted an Anti-Tobacco Awareness program for students of 9th and 10th Standard which was very well received by the students.
• Dental checkup was conducted for all students by the students of Bharatiya Vidyapeth Dental College.
• This Year a full sized basketball court was constructed on the school premises. New Speaker system, PA system and two TVs were purchased and installed to implement audio visual learning. The focus this year to work on improving teaching methods.
• The Pune Cantonment Board administered the Rubella vaccination to students on school premises.
• Football and Basketball classes are being held in School on Saturdays. The students have also started playing club level matches and should be prepared for inter-school matches by next academic year.

PWC ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL BUILDING: Convenor- Ms. Sunita Shirke
The trees in the premises were trimmed. The compound, building chajja, and water tank are being periodically cleaned. MSEB bills are being paid on time. All repairing and maintenance is done on time and kept the school building is kept up to date.
PWC ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP: Convenor- Ms. Priya Sule
The academic performance of our school children for the SSC Board exam conducted in March 2018 was very good. We have 600 students studying in the school. The Play school for tiny tots and is running very well. Sponsorship has been given to approximately 100 students. We are grateful to all the generous donors and supporters.
TRUSTEES: Mg.Trustee- Ms. Suchita Shroff. Till now Managed Ms. Abeda Inamdar recently handed over to Ms. Suchita Shroff.
The Trustees meet regularly every 3 months and disburse funds to the various sub- committees from the interest received from various deposits. All investments in fixed deposits are planned carefully to get maximum benefits.
TROOPS WELFARE: Convenor Ms. Sanyukta Raje Jhala
• Raksha bandhan was celebrated at Paraplegic ward. Few of the members celebrated along with convenor. Jawans were tied rakhis & distributed sweets at convenor’s expense.
VILLAGE WELFARE KATRAJ: Convenor- Ms. Manda Shimpi
• Village Welfare Katraj School is running well with 40 English Medium students & 39 Marathi Medium students. • Children enjoy all festivals like pa
lkhi, dahi handi, Ganesh Chathurti.
• Palak Sabha was held on 22nd September. Well attended by parents. They were completely satisfied with the running of the school. Suggestion from parents to have separate junior & senior classes.
• Monthly meetings held regularly every month at Village Welfare Katraj School.
• Processing work for starting English medium School in Katraj already got started by the President.
• Marathi Medium students provided Mid-Day meals daily by Mukul Madhav Foundation.
VILLAGE WELFARE BAVDHAN: Convenor- Ms. Manju Gupta
• School is running smoothly with total 36 children. Balwadi- 10
Creche- 26
• All religious and national festivals celebrated.
• Mukul Madhav Foundation started giving grocery for Nutritious Diet.
CONDOLENCE:
With deep regret we condole the demise of our members Ms. Nalini Khasnis, Ms. Medha Ramesh Sane, Ms. Mana Bhivandiwala, Ms. Usha Bambawale and Ms. Freny Wadia.
